Is 1080p really worth it?
I really want to get a 1080p TV, but I just can't see how it would be worth it for me.

I've got a PS3, and don't really watch many movies. Apparently GT5 uses upscaled 1080p, and there aren't any other 1080p PS3 games on the horizon.

Would it be better to get a 720p TV instead, and then upgrade to a 1080p say in 3 years when they're cheaper and when there's actually some 1080p PS3 games... ?

If you're not going to be watching Blu-ray movies, then I wouldn't bother with 1080p for now. Unless you're into pixel counting, you probably won't see the difference between 720 and 1080. I don't wear my glasses when I watch TV or play games - so I can barely tell the difference between SD and HD anyway Tongue

Yeah unless Sony release some 1080 games I think it's a waste of money.

RE: Is 1080p really worth it?
I've just read that the PS3 can't downsample Blu-ray movies to 720p.. It can only show them in full 1080p, 1080i, or at 480p.

If I get a 720p TV, what's it going to do when I throw a 1080p Blu-ray signal at it? Do most new 720p TVs do 1080i too? Even though I don't really watch many movies, I certainly don't want to be watching them at 480p.

I think Sony have announced a future firmware upgrade that will output Bluray at 720p.

Hi Big Chips,
As you are not interested in watching the movies. It is not a wise decision to purchase the 1080p.

RE: Is 1080p really worth it?
Along with the relative shortage of 1080p displays, the vast majority of DVD hardware (DVD is still the most popular optical disc format) only outputs 720p/1080i at best. Again, it tends to cost more to get an up-scaling player that handles 1080p.

In fact the answer to the above questions is no response and if the consumer should have a 1080p display is usually not so well. It just not worth extra $$.
